Protection, conservation and restoration of cultural heritage (CH) assets require the use of materials that must be compatible with the historical substrates and, if necessary, fully removable in order to restore the pristine status of the asset.

The aim of this project is to establish a full-life protocol for CH conservation purposes, spanning the whole conservation treatment:

1. Surface cleaning by atmospheric plasma

2. Deposition of protective coatings with self diagnostic features

3. Coating removal by atmospheric plasma

The main project objectives can be summarised:

• Advanced coatings for protection of cultural heritage assets.

• Portable plasma torch focused for CH applications: surface cleaning and deposition of protective coatings.

• Self-diagnostic protective coatings for conservation of stone, metal and wall paintings.

• Invisible marker coatings for identification and anti-counterfeiting purposes.
